Animal Feedings

Experience the feeding of the exotic animals at Biosphäre Potsdam.

The Biosphäre Potsdam is home to a large number of exotic animals. Countless exotic animals in more than 140 species live in terrariums, aquariums, aviaries and freely in the hall. At the public feeding with the animal keepers, you’ll get to know some of these creatures a little better and learn a lot about their behaviour.

    Meeting point: Chameleon terrariums at the entrance to the underwater world

    Chameleons are fascinating reptiles that can change their color depending on their mood or surroundings. With their rotating eyes, they have a panoramic view and can quickly catch their prey with their long tongues. They live primarily in tropical forests and enjoy hanging out in trees.

    ​​​Meeting point: Aviary on the lower level

    Public bird feeding is particularly suitable for all lovers of feathered animals. The animal keepers tell us a lot about the sun parakeets that are in the aviary. But the birds that live freely in the hall also gather close to our animal professionals to be fed. Take the chance and observe the three-colored starlings, goat parakeets and cockatiels up close and learn interesting facts about the colorful flying pros.

    Meeting point: Meeting At the bird aviaries

    These rodents live up to their name! Our Prevost's squirrels are a member of the beautiful squirrel family, originally from Southeast Asia, and are quite large, measuring about 24 centimeters in length with a tail twice as long. In rainforests, they are primarily found in tall trees, but also on the ground to forage for food.

    The monkeys are loose! You can watch the biosphere keepers feeding our cute marmosets. The active acrobats are the stars of the jungle and a very special highlight due to their bright nature. At the public feeding, you will not only find out what our little monkeys like to eat for lunch, but also a lot of exciting information about the behavior of the primates.

    Meeting point: butterfly house

    Delicate, colorful, and seemingly weightless – our tropical butterflies are among the quiet stars of the Potsdam Biosphere. Even if they aren't actively fed, there's plenty to discover during their daily care: A nectar mixture is prepared and distributed on feeding tables and fruit. You'll learn what exactly goes into the butterfly cocktail, why some species don't drink at all, and how short—or surprisingly long—a butterfly's life can be.

    Every Saturday at the lower pond you have the opportunity to watch the cichlids and koi being fed and learn more about the fish.

    Meeting point: jetty at the Urwaldsee at Café Tropencamp

    Peacock cichlids, among others, swim in the jungle lake at Café Tropencamp. Every Sunday, you can watch the fish being fed live. The animal feeding is included in the admission price.
